Why is Rice Bad for you?
Rice is sourced out from the plant named Oryza sativa or Oryza glaberrima. Considered to be the staple of most countries, particularly in East and South Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and the West Indies, rice is the second most produced type of grain next only to corn. Rice is the most important grain to be produced considering its nutritional value and caloric content that is found to be sufficient for human’s daily consumption. The production of such type of grain has proven to have great contributions in improving nutrition, boosting food security, fostering rural development and supporting sustainable land care. Today, rice is widely distributed in all parts of the world with Asia as the major rice producing continent among other existing continents across the globe.
For many peoples, especially those residing in Asian countries, the absence of rice at the dining area seems to make any meal incomplete. But health experts and some agriculturists have claimed that consumption of white rice is bad for one’s health. Aside from excess consumption of white rice which makes it obviously bad, white rice is said to be harmful for one’s health primarily because it has undergone processes that eventually wears off the natural nutrients contained in each grain. White rice undergoes a typical process of milling and polishing, which provides bright, white, shiny appearance of the grains. The process of milling prevents spoilage and lengthens the shelf life of rice while polishing is known to remove the essential nutrients found rice. This makes white rice bad because aside from the absence of nutrients, what one mainly consumes are great amounts of carbohydrates and starches that contributes much to weight gain and improper distribution of nutrients. With these facts, this makes white rice consumption unhealthy.

Carbohydrates do not contribute to fat formation. Excess glucose is removed from the body via dietary thermogenesis – it turns into heat.
Nobody gets fat from eating rice.
It is not optimal food – fruit is.
Starch is a carbohydrate.
Carbohydrates are good.
