Why is Psychology considered a science?
Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. Its main objective is to understand behaviors and to explain why such behaviors are being elicited. Psychology is the field of study where mental and behavioral concepts are the primary focus, which, with its end results, aims to contribute to the society by helping the common people understand certain behaviors. The most common concepts that are being studies in this field of work are perception, cognition, attention, motivation, brain functioning, personality, behavior and interpersonal relationships. Psychologists study these concepts in the light of proven theories that were once taken into experiment by famous people in its history. Some of whom are Plato, B.F. Skinner, Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler and many others contemporary psychologists. Today, most knowledge concerning psychology is used in understanding human behaviors and in solving problems among different spheres of human activity as further studies had been conducted to provide truthful explanations that greatly concerns man.
Psychology is a form of an art and a science. Many query why it is a science when in fact; it deals with human behaviors and cognitive functions. As explained by many experts in psychology, this field of study is a science because it utilizes the steps involved in scientific investigation. More so, the methods used in psychology are based on proven data, also known as empirical information, and are guides to confirming studies being conducted. Although the main focus of study in psychology is humans and their behaviors, it does exempt it from utilizing scientific methods because psychology also deals with problems where solutions and answers are being sought. Therefore, it is but justifiable that psychology be considered as a science.
Today, psychology remains to function effectively in studying humans and behaviors.
