Why is Olive Oil good for you?

Olive oil is considered as a juice that is available naturally and directly from the olive fruit. This oil possesses the smell, taste and vitamins that are present in the olive fruit. The ingredients of olive fruit are directly inherited into the oil as it can be obtained by pressing the fruit. Olive is not processed much and hence is considered healthy. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats which are known for reducing the risk of heart disease. The oil decreases the low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and therefore reduces the risks related to the heart. Saturated fats and Trans fats increase the LDL cholesterol levels and hence create heart problems.

As per the regulations made by food and drug administration (FDA), intake of about two tablespoons of olive oil per day will diminish the heart related problems. Monounsaturated fats are the major ingredients of all types of olive oils. The ‘extra virgin, olive oil type and ‘virgin, type are available in least processed forms and so they are much useful for maintaining healthy heart. Extra virgin and Virgin olive oil types are more beneficial for the health as they also contain antioxidants like polyphenols. Extra virgin olive oil is also known to reduce the inflammation and helps in preventing few cancers.

It is found that the coronary arteries are kept clear by the olive oil to aid in proper supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart. Olive oil is known to protect the stomach from various problems like gastritis and acid reflux conditions. Olive oil has the ability to treat ulcers and stomach lining that is damaged. Olive oil helps in regeneration of the damaged stomach wall. Olive oil is studied to have the characteristic of stimulating the secretion of bile juice and pancreatic hormones. Research is going on in Spain currently on the effect of olive oil in preventing colon cancer. The studies done till now say that consuming olive oil regularly will reduce the risk of developing colon cancer.
