Why Is Kobe Called Black Mamba?

Kobe Bean Bryant is a very famous and a multi-awarded basketball player in America. He started playing basketball at the early age of 3 and became one of the top high school basketball players of the country. He joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the year 1996 and since then he has consistently earned awards and citations.

The very skillful basketball player led his team to 3 consecutive championships from 2000-2002 and has since earned All-Star MVP awards in 2002,2007 and 2009. In 2010, he earned the recognition of becoming the all-time lead scorer in the history of the L.A. Lakers team franchise. Add to that he has been named as NBA Player of the Decade by acclaimed companies including Sporting News.

He gave himself the name Black Mamba and since then he has been known and called as such by his avid fans, followers and media .Black Mamba is a dreaded and a venomous snake well-known for its speed, deadly precision and terrifying agility. These skills best describe Kobe on the court who has led his Los Angeles Lakers team to various victories.

The Black Mamba snake which is commonly found in Africa can grow up to 14 feet, has incredible speed and aptly called the fastest land snake. It is characteristically shy, secretive and got its name from the black and purple color on the lining of its mouth. It is the second largest snake in the world next to King Cobra and a diurnal snake that hunts by day and sleep s at night.

With the said characteristics of his namesake it would seem that Kobe has found his perfect match. It has been said that black mamba snakes have 99% accuracy in hitting its target or prey and Kobe himself seems to have the same skill and precision having had plenty of 40 and 50 point games all throughout his career and even scored 81 points during a game versus the Raptors in the year 2006.
