Why do athletes drink Gatorade?

FDA has neither approved nor disapproved the energy drinks usage. Most of the energy drinks contain stimulants of the body activities. Drinks like Gatorade consist of sodium and some electrolytes which will energize your body by providing the lost salts. These kinds of drinks are considered good for the athletes. Athletes are more interested to take Gatorade drink because they will be able to work out for about two to six hours per day. Athletes taking Gatorade were able to do more work outs to maintain the fitness and to enhance their performance. During the exercise, their body loses lot of sodium salts and other electrolytes. In order to rejuvenate the body with instantaneous supplements, the liquid drinks will help the athletes to gain lot of energy immediately.

Most of the athletes prefer taking Gatorade or Powerade. The energy drink market has many more drinks available that can stimulate your brain and activate your body like what caffeine does. But, the warning given by FDA will also be displayed on the drinks. It is advisable to take energy drinks when you are going to do heavy exercises for more than 2-3 hours a day. Otherwise it is safe to drink plain water instead of energy drinks as they possess high calorie content.

Research has been done on Gatorade to know about its benefits on athletes. Gatorade is believed to have right proportion of carbohydrates, electrolytes and flavors that can supplement our body nutrients after heavy physical activity. Gatorade is considered as a useful alternative for ordinary water when it is sweating much and if you are very much thirsty. Gatorade is advantageous over water as it can revive the minerals that were lost by sweating. Gatorade is preferred over other drinks as it does not contain fruit juices. It does not contain fructose which can cause intestinal problems. This drink has proper electrolytes and has best flavor which can satisfy the thirst as well as the taste of the athletes.
