Why are Blueberries good for You?

It is known from some of the studies that blueberries slow down the aging process on nerve cells. The oxidative stress on the nerves caused by damaged oxygen molecules was observed to be decreased by blueberries. Blueberries contain anthocyanin which is called as anti-inflammatory substance. Anthocyanin present in blueberries is known to soften the arteries and prevent them from getting constricted due to stress. Vasoconstriction caused by stress induces high blood pressure which can result in cardiovascular disease. The relaxation of arteries occurs due to increase in nitric oxide provided by blueberries. Blueberries also improve the mood status by transporting energy to the brain.

It is always important to understand the significance of eating fresh fruits than the derived products of the fruits like processed items from blueberries or stored blueberry fruit juice. Most of the fruits and vegetables lose their nutrients when they are frozen. Blueberries that are frozen are found to be not spoiled and hence are preferred to be used in recipes like eating with yoghurt and soya milk.

Blueberries are rich in Vitamin K, vitamin C which helps in absorption of iron, and improves immune system. Blueberries are also high in fiber content. Food taken with high fiber content will control the cholesterol levels and develop the health of the heart. Fiber also helps in enhancing digestion process. Blueberries are rich source of manganese. Manganese aids in bone development as well as in metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Human body in one of the metabolic processes releases free radicals daily. This daily release of free radicals is responsible for causing many diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and cardiovascular diseases. Blueberries consist of antioxidants like anthocyanins and flavonoids, which can nullify the bad effects of free radicals. In summary, blueberries are rich in Vitamin C, contain high fiber content, contain low cholesterol content and have low calories. Hence they are good for us.

Freezing fruits or vegetables does not lower the nutritional content. If anything, they’re more nutritious, since they’re picked and frozen right away at peak freshness.

A fruit is a fruit. The only one being wrong is the one that doesn’t eat blueberries. Weather frozen or not frozen it don’t matter as long as you can eat them. However, in this article, the author mentioned frozen blueberries have no nutritional values when frozen. However, there is no explanation or scientific data to prove such statement. Therefore, Lisa is right until someone can come with an answer.

    I love blueberries!

I just bought some blueberries and they are great. I put them in my oatmeal, cereal, pancakes, ramen noodles, on a peanut butter sandwich, and try it for your self even in spaghetti

I crave blueberries and never knew why. I am 59 with spinal prolems, knee problems, hypokalemia, and Fibromyalgia. After reading this I know why. Did not understand why my body craved it. I just thought that it was my animal familiar (grizzly bear that was making me do it. 🙂 But really one can not go wrong by having such a craving esp as we age. I have big problems with inflammation. This is truely a super food!
